'Smash' stars Katharine McPhee, Megan Hilty promise 'thrilling' finale

By
Smash stars Katharine McPhee and Megan Hilty have revealed that there will be "many cliffhangers" in the "thrilling" season finale.

The duo said that their respective alter egos Karen and Ivy, as well as the rest of the show's main characters, will have a moment to shine in the May 14 episode.

"It doesn't end on a cliffhanger," Hilty told Collider. "It ends on many cliffhangers. Every single character has a thrilling moment, in the finale. I can't wait to find out what happens to all of the characters."

Asked if Karen and Ivy's truce will maintain in season two, Hilty replied: "Would it be a good show if it maintained the same? I think part of the beauty of the show is that they are constantly going back and forth, and it's not just one note, all the time."

McPhee added: "I definitely think that Karen needs to grow some balls, at some point, and just like really take the reins and stop letting people walk all over her... I think they are going to have some serious challenges in season two."

Smash was officially renewed for a second season last month and production is scheduled to start in July.

Creator Theresa Rebeck has stepped down as showrunner for the sophomore run.
