The forthcoming new episodes of the HBO drama will see the characters all move on after Sookie renounced her lovers in the season four finale.
"Sookie may have renounced both Bill and Eric, but that doesn't mean that there's not other hot supernatural men that are interested in her," creator Alan Ball told TV Guide.
It has been suggested that Sookie could find love with Alcide in the new season, however the character's portrayer Joe Manganiello teased that the pair would first have to deal with Sookie murdering his ex-girlfriend Debbie Pelt (Brit Morgan).
"You know that Alcide's going to find out she's dead, and there will be fallout," he said. "He and Sookie will deal with it. The question is how he's going to deal with it, which is a very complex emotional web.
"There are some complicated things that need to be dealt with. Timing has always been an issue for them, but maybe there's a way through that?"
Ball also revealed that Bill and Eric will strike up a friendship after being spurned by Sookie, but their new truce may be damaged again when they both fall for True Blood newcomer Salome, an ancient vampire played by Valentina Cervi.
"This is the season of the bromance," Ball explained. "Bill and Eric have a rocky history, we all know this, and it got particularly rocky when they both wanted the same thing: Sookie. But when Sookie is out of the picture, there just might be hope for friendship."
It was revealed this week that returning villain Russell Edgington (Denis O'Hare) will also have a new love interest.
True Blood season five premieres on HBO on June 10 and on FX in the UK later this year.
