The 24-year-old revealed that Caroline has become more responsible since becoming a vampire, claiming that she feels obligated to look after the people she loves.
"She feels a newfound responsibility to protect the people around her," Accola told TV Guide. "That has been one of the qualities that has really grown within Caroline from her transition into becoming a vampire."
The actress went on to speak about the future of Caroline and Tyler's relationship, hinting that it will not last forever.
"What I love about the Tyler-Caroline [relationship] is that it stems from a place of friendship and notion of, 'I have your back and you have mine.' They're teammates in a sense," Accola said.
She continued: "Even though they've had to emotionally evolve, they're still in high school, so who knows how long the relationship will last?"
Executive producer Julie Plec previously suggested that the pair will experience some tension on the upcoming episodes of The Vampire Diaries.
