Michael C Hall has dropped hints about the future of Dexter.

Deb (Jennifer Carpenter) discovered Dexter (Hall) committing a murder in the Showtime drama's sixth season finale.

"All bets are off now that Deb has witnessed Dexter [kill Travis]," the actor told Vulture. "I don't know what would happen in that relationship."

"Whatever he does or says, I think he's going to try to take control, as difficult as that would be."

Hall also joked that he would not encourage Deb to pursue her new-found romantic feelings for his character.

"If I were a therapist, I'd say, 'Don't go there' - I'd encourage her to set some limits," he admitted. "I don't think I'd encourage her to make any declarations of love."

Showtime president David Nevins previously defended the controversial 'incest' plot, explaining that it had been on the cards "for a long time".

Producer Manny Coto has also indicated that Dexter will be "a different show" following Deb's most recent discovery.

Dexter returns to Showtime on Sunday, September 30 at 9/8c.
