'Biggest Loser' week 5 recap: Aqua Team returns, one player leaves

By
Biggest Loser's fifth week saw the poor Aqua Team given their chance to join the ranch following their early exit in week one. If you remember, the brother-and-sister pair from Illinois failed to make the final cut for the show but were given a challenge: lose 50lbs between you and you can have another shot. So, now it's time to see if Daphne and Adrian have hit that target.

It's an easy victory for the pair. Daphne lost 26lbs and Adrian shed 34lbs, so they are back on the ranch! Of course, they don't know about the week one separation of teams so that's a shocker, and they both want to train with Bob so someone's going to have make a compromise. In the end it's Daphne for Team Bob and Adrian for Team Dolvett, and in an extra twist they'll have immunity from elimination as long as they don't gain weight.

Time for a catch up with the teams, where Adrian's claims of working out for 14 hours a day are met by skepticism in some quarters. "I feel like I'm being fed a line every time he opens his mouth," says Kim. However, he gets his chance to prove his workout skills in the gym later that day, impressing everyone with his strength and stamina. "I felt like when the workout ended we'd just begun working out," he says.

After the workout Adrian catches up with Dolvett where he delivers the devastating news that he and his wife lost their first child when she was born prematurely. He turned to food to help with his grief until a wake-up call at the movie theatre when his heart started racing and he collapsed while downing a soda and candy bar. He's at the ranch to ensure his future for his wife - who is pregnant - and their children.

Over at Black Team HQ, Bob wants a week of harmony and the results of the recent vote are dissected and Chris promises that she wants to be at the ranch. So with that all sorted it's off to the gym for a "bone crushing" workout that Bob has apparently named "Fran". As Chism explains: "He wants us to get to the point where we're basically gasping for air because once you get to that point it's when the fat starts burning off you."

After the workout Chris corners Chism and Jeremy in the kitchen for what they describe as a "weird and awkward conversation" in which she tells them how much she admires them. They aren't buying it, figuring she's just trying to get them on her side after last week's vote.

Beach Ball Challenge

It becomes clear Daphne isn't too happy about how Conda has been treating Adrian, but there's no time to dwell because they have to focus their energy on a challenge involving racing around the beach with giant balls and a trampoline-style net. Red Team wins, which means they can choose one member of their team and one member of the Black Team whose weight won't count at weigh-in.

Back at the ranch, Nancy's had enough - she tells Conda she's tired of hearing complaints about Adrian. It all descends into a bit of squabbling between various team members until Mark stands up and says the tension will tear the team apart if they don't make amends.

Adrian later tells Dolvett that he isn't bothered about his team's feelings, saying: "This is called the Biggest Loser not the Biggest Friendship." Dolvett, however, gathers everyone together to clear the air. Kim explains that it isn't personal but they find it awkward having a new team member coming into their fold. Dolvett agrees it will take time for Adrian to become a full team member but it's worth working on. Adrian privately says all might be forgiven but it isn't forgotten.

The Weigh-In

Red Team chooses Nancy's weight not to count for them, while Black Team will have to forfeit Megan's weight loss for this week.

Dolvett's Red Team
Nancy: -4lbs
Adrian: -2lbs
Kim: -5lbs
Kimmy: -4lbs
Roy: -4lbs
Mark: -4lbs
Buddy: -8lbs
Conda: -2lbs (she feels it doesn't reflect the work she put in)

Bob's Black Team
Megan: -9lbs
Daphne: -1lb (she's puzzled because she "worked hard", Bob says "it's a joke")
Chism: -2lbs (he doesn't have an explanation for the low number)
Emily: -5lbs
Chris: -4lbs
Cassandra: -6lbs
Jeremy: -9lbs

So it's the Red Team who will be facing off in the elimination chamber but Adrian and Kim both have immunity. But, first, Mark tells Adrian that he's suspicious he and Daphne have been playing a game, pointing out their low numbers came in a week when they had immunity. Adrian denies it.

Kimmy kicks off voting by sending Nancy home. Nancy then votes Mark and Mark retaliates by voting Nancy. Adrian votes Mark. Buddy votes for "very dear" Nancy. Votes from Kim and a tearful Conda seal Nancy's fate.

Adrian steps forward to say how sad it is to see Nancy leave but Kim and Conda point out he doesn't understand how hard it is to send a friend home and it's inappropriate for him to speak up now.

Nancy says that she is now happier and feels more like herself, and that granddaughter Cassandra saved her life by encouraging her to come to the ranch. She now weighs 178lbs and is enjoying being active with her grandchildren.
