Elise, Paul, Will, Jennifer and Tommy went head-to-head with Ben (season 5), Tennille and Van, (season 6) and Trev and Jillian (season 8).
Dinner service opened with each team having to design their own menu consisting of four appetizers, four entrées and three desserts. The veterans quickly decided on what they considered to be a strong menu, but the current chefs struggled to work together to devise a menu, with Elise proving a particularly divisive character.
Dinner service went well for both teams with only minor mishaps on either side, including Paul overcooking his lobster and Van undercooking his lamb. In the end, it was such a close race that Chef Gordon Ramsay decided to use the customer comment cards to choose the winner, focusing on the question, 'Would you return to the restaurant?'
80% of the returning chefs' customers would choose to return, but the current chefs were named the winners of the challenge with 90% of customers wanting to return. Nevertheless, Chef Ramsay then made the shock announcement that two of the current chefs would still face elimination that night.

Upstairs, the usual bickering over who should or should not be nominated for elimination ensued before Jennifer - who was convinced she was going home - decided to tell Paul she'd had a crush on him since the first episode.
Back in the kitchen, it was Jennifer and Elise who were nominated for elimination but in another surprise twist, Chef Ramsay decided that nobody should go home because the service had been the best of the season so far.
Monday night's episode also featured the first individual challenge of the season, which was all about transforming "ugly" foods into something stunning: eggplant parmesan (Elise), lasagna (Jennifer), meat loaf (Will), chicken and dumplings (Tommy) and tuna casserole (Paul).
The judging panel had to score on presentation and taste with the maximum score being 100. Will was named the winner of the challenge with a total of 87 points, narrowly beating Elise who secured 86 points. His prize was to experience some of LA's best restaurants (including Wolfgang Puck's Spago) and he chose to take Elise with him because it was the "honourable" thing to do.
Hell's Kitchen airs Mondays on Fox.
