Aretha Franklin: 'I want to be next American Idol judge'

Aretha Franklin has revealed that she is interested in taking over as a judge on American Idol.

The Fox reality series was recently hit by two bombshells when Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler announced that they are leaving the show.



Both judges apparently left the singing competition show to focus on their music careers, leaving two spots open on the judging panel.

According to TMZ, Franklin recently sent out an email responding to questions about her future role on the show, saying: "Yes, I am interested as a judge."

Producers from Idol have not commented on whether or not Franklin is indeed in the running to join the show.

The soul singer recently performed at the Essence Music Festival along with D'Angelo and comedian Kevin Hart.
